Why GreenCorridor is needed

Southern Europe is facing interacting pressures: severe wildfire, water scarcity, erosion, biodiversity loss, rural abandonment and declining capacity to maintain land over decades. Treating them separately produces fragmented interventions and recurring emergency costs.

GreenCorridor addresses the space between protected nature, villages, productive land, roads and water systems. This “in-between landscape” is where fuel continuity, abandonment, erosion, access and economic decline reinforce one another. A corridor approach gives every zone a function and connects prevention to long-term management.

1

Prevention before emergency response

2

Water and soil as core infrastructure

3

Biodiversity with active stewardship

4

Rural activity as part of resilience
